Java Back-end Developer

The Tacx app (available for IOS, Android, Windows and Mac) connects with Tacx trainers and makes indoor cycling more realistic, challenging and fun. Together with the Garmin Connect App, which provides a full view of health and fitness data, we help our users to push their limits and reach their goals by combining indoor and outdoor cycling: an all-season cycling experience. In this client-facing product environment we continuously need to improve performance, quality, features and design.

We are looking for a Java Software Engineer who has a passion for technology. You will have the chance to develop highly scalable, supportable, and reliable APIs that service the Tacx products in the entire Garmin ecosystem. Your main area of focus will be on the Garmin Connect APIs.

The App Development team
The App Development team consists of 40 people spread across 4 teams with more than 10 different nationalities. We collaborate closely with our colleagues in the USA, Romania and Taiwan to create an all-season cycling experience.

You will participate in the full lifecycle of development from conception, analysis, design, implementation, testing and deployment, and use Garmin and Third-Party Developer APIs to support innovative features across Garmin devices, web, and mobile platforms.

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

• Implement large-scale, highly available, distributed solutions together with our team of developers, designers, automation engineers and testers.
• Pro-actively address any issues or bugs and solve these if prioritized.
• Adhere to principles, patterns and practices together with the team.
• Participate in code reviews.
• Partner with the Product team and Business analysts to create new concepts and features.
• You will be responsible for performing builds and deployments to various testing and development environments.

What do we expect from you?

• A Bachelor of Science or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of experience in designing and developing scalable enterprise-level backend solutions, in Java and Spring.
• Significant experience with coding and tuning data structures and REST Services (3+ years).
• You are experienced with web standards, usability, and accessibility principles.
• Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills (in English).
• You are team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, and work well with others.
• You are flexible and able to work effectively and proactively in a fast-paced environment.

It’s a plus if you have experience with HBase, Spring Boot, Rabbit MQ, SQL Server, Elasticsearch, Kafka, Redis, Memcached, Docker, Kubernetes, FIT SDK.
